Nordic Walking at Hope Woods

Enhance your fitness journey with Nordic Walking—a dynamic, full-body exercise that utilizes specially designed poles to engage both upper and lower body muscles. Originating from Finland as off-season training for cross-country skiers, Nordic Walking has evolved into a globally recognized activity suitable for individuals of all ages and fitness levels.

By incorporating poles into your walking routine, you activate approximately 80–90% of your body's muscles, transforming a simple walk into a comprehensive workout. This method not only increases calorie expenditure by up to 67% compared to regular walking but also offers additional benefits such as improved cardiovascular health, enhanced balance and coordination, and reduced stress on joints—making it an excellent option for those with arthritis or joint concerns.

Program Details:
  • When: Thursdays, 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
  • Where: ADA-accessible trails at Hope Woods
  • Equipment: Twenty sets of Nordic walking poles will be available for participant use.
  • Duration: Sessions will continue throughout the summer and into the fall, weather permitting.
Please note: Sessions will be canceled in the event of severe weather conditions.
